History

The renowned hingan samurai, Orochiharu Kurou, is regarded as somewhat of a local hero in Amahara. His wife bore him three children: Harunobu, his firstborn son who would serve as his heir and prodigy, Haruhime, his second child and only daughter, then finally Harushina, his second son and last child. On the day that Harushina was born, none had expected him to survive. He was alarmingly small, even for an infant, like a delicate little porcelain doll. Fortunately, the riches that the heroic samurai had amassed over his lifetime of masterful bladework afforded Harushina the best care that gil could buy. It was by this virtue that, against all odds, the child survived.Orochiharu saw to it that both Harunobu and Haruhime would carry on his proud legacy by learning to master the art of Iaijutsu just as he did. However, he quickly realized that Harushina would forever be too small to properly wield a katana. It was for this reason that the child would not be taught like his older siblings. Instead, under the close tutelage and personal guidance of a trusted jonin, Harushina was set upon the path of the ninja. His training began before he could even walk. The young Harushina was afforded a superb curriculum of education, but while he excelled academically, his social life was a disaster. Much to his father's disapproval and embarrassment, the boy was always soft and effeminate in appearance and by nature. If the Kurou name had not carried such prestige, he might have been mistaken for a daughter. This made him an easy and frequent target of bullying. For years, hardly a day would go by without some form of cruel torment from his peers. The physical and mental abuse cut him deeply and in many ways, but even so the timid boy never stood up for himself. He simply endured this treatment and suffered it as quietly as he could. While both of his elder siblings were supportive of their younger brother through his hardships, their father was outraged. The hardened samurai believed Harushina to be weak, mentally ill, and an utter disgrace to the family name. Eventually, Orochiharu could not stand it any longer. When Harushina was only but 12 years old, Orochiharu disowned and banished him to the mercy of the city streets. Harunobu was furious with their father for this and began a search for the boy as soon as he could, but even then it was already too late. Harushina had vanished without a trace. Some fruitless days of searching that followed left the public to presume Harushina dead. Most had given up by then, but his elder brother, fueled by passion and heartache, would never relent.Six years passed before Harushina was finally found by his siblings. The hidden village he was discovered in was razed, and the only ones seen to have evacuated it were the Kurous themselves. It is largely unknown how he managed to survive or what he had been doing for all of this time. His sudden return to the public eye after having been long thought dead struck fear and doubt into the superstitious populace, which gave credence to several rumors.
